You're Making Me Hate You: A Cantankerous Look at the Common Misconception That Humans Have Any Common Sense Left, by Corey Taylor

New York Times bestselling lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour's hilarious trawl through the endless backwaters of human stupidityCorey Taylor has had it. Had it with the vagaries of human behavior and life in this postmodern digital blanked-out waiting room that passes for a world. Reality TV, awful music, terrible drivers, megamalls, airports, family reunions, bad fashion choices, other people's monstrous children, and badly-behaved "adult" human beings are warping life in the twenty-first century into an often-unbearable endurance test of one's patience, fortitude, and faith. Funny, profane, blasphemous, and above all right on target, You're Making Me Hate You is pure Corey Taylor unleashed, exposing the underbelly of human depravity in all its ragged glory.

I wanted to love this book. As a fan of Slipknot and Stone Sour, I was looking forward to a glimpse inside the mind of Corey Taylor. Unfortunately, I found his musings lacking insightfulness and mostly dull, irrelevant, obvious, and sometimes childish. However, I do think he has a knack for writing as far as vocabulary and the ability to string words together to create interesting sentences. (Seemingly endless fart jokes and profanity aside.) Though this doesn't surprise me, he's an incredible song writer. His creative use of language was the only thing that got me through to the end of the book. Which brings me to my biggest pet peeve with the book. Music snobs. I have love (in varying degrees) and appreciation for all genres of music. Metal and rock music is by far one of the greatest joys of my life. I have found though that many of my fellow metal aficionado's seem to have a disdain for most other genres of music. While Mr. Taylor seems to share my enthusiasm for many types of music, he also devalues and trashes others. I think all music has value. Let's face it, for most of us life is a crap sandwich with a great big bowl of suck on the side. Music becomes our happy place. And if some little girl out there somewhere is having a really bad day and hearing Justin Bieber sing "Baby, Baby, Baby" gives her 3 minutes and 27 seconds of happiness, I say that has value. When it comes to music, one persons "suck" is another's salvation.

so I'll cut to the chase, I read "America 51" and was very displeased as to what Corey had to say. Just a whole bunch of rambling in regards to unsupported claims made by Taylor. This book is also a rant without cited sources as well and frankly I cant argue with anyone who doesn't support their arguments with facts. I'am making this an exception because when it came to traveling (all modes of travel in the U.S) and situational awareness, Corey pointed out very significant arguments as a resident of California and traffic that I do have to negotiate on a daily basis yes this needs to be addressed to our citizens.Taylor made a statement as to the regulation of vehicles sold to consumers that I 100% agree with. The thing with Taylor is that he is very much talk yes he has done one benefit concert with anthrax in 2011 but he still needs to produce more actions as to his arguments. I live in ventura county California where the Thomas fires have done significant damage it would be very good of him to come on down and play a concert at our summer fair usually in August. A lot of Americans should probably read this book as this time I agree with his arguments.

Definitely insightful and accurate view about those people who aren't the "sharpest knife in the drawer" when it comes to air travel, driving, child rearing, relationships, and just life. Might have liked it a bit better if f%&$ and sh!@ wasn't in every other sentence. 8 hours of listening was just enough time to increase my frequency of dropping the f-bomb if not paying attention. But without the excessive cursing, it might not be quite as humorous. Would definitely read again...but with a swear jar and stack of dollar bills at my side. 😋

If you are familiar with the front man of either Slipknot or Stone Sour then you are familiar with his rants. They are fantastic! Witty, intelligent, and well worded. This guy's vocabulary is unbelievable! His books are always entertaining. If for nothing else, use this book as a way to expand on your own vocabulary.

Was a gift for my husband. It was recommended by one of his favorite comedians so he was curious to read it. He didn't completely like the writing style in the book and has yet to finish it. He doesn't dislike it but is having a hard time really getting into it.

Didn't find it surprising that Mr. Taylor and I share a lot of the same issues. For anyone who needs a good shot of reality into their perception of society look no further. Cory delivers similar to the great George Carlin (RIP) in a humorous and interesting way on his views of pretty much everything.

Being a Slipknot fan myself, I told myself I would make this as unbiased as possible, so here it goes...You're Making Me Hate You is one of the most hilarious books I have EVER had the pleasure of reading. From children to airports right down to kids with YouTube, this was something definitely worth reading! If you like books that really tell how it is, then check this book out at a library or buy it yourself, like I did. You will not regret it!

there are some times in the book where it sounds like rambling but he does keep it interesting by making it seem as if he is talking to you personally. he also makes in my opinion a few to many references some people might not get. now the book is pretty funny and well worded wit a rater big vocabulary even with all the foul language, but hey these are words coming from a heavy metal singer so what did you expect for everything to be kid friendly. the good for sure out weighs the bad features of the book nd opens up with a hilarious agreement fallowed by a funny story.
